Three tips to help look after yourself during the silly season

As we fast approach the end of the year there’s little wonder why the Christmas period is also called the silly season. Families go into meltdown with extra activities, shops are bursting at the seams, it’s Christmas party central and our calendars are overflowing.

With the added pressures that Christmas can bring it’s important that you continue to look after yourself. So I thought I’d give you some tips to help you start 2020 off right.

Tip #1: Be mindful of your eating habits

This has to be the simplest (and hardest) thing you can do to look after yourself at Christmas. With so much great food on offer make conscious choices and keep it fresh. Meats, veggies, fruits, so much great fresh produce at Christmas to enjoy. Intermittent fasting is a great way to keep those calories in check. If you know you’re going to have a big meal later in the day you might want to try fasting until midday. Many feel find huge benefit in keeping their eating in an 8 hour window.

Tip #2: Schedule in your exercise

To keep you at your best it’s vital that you maintain your weekly exercise regime. We’re tired towards the end of the year and sometimes it’s the last thing we feel like doing. To avoid this from happening schedule your exercise in your diary as you would a work meeting or other social event. Try to integrate movement into your social activities with a game of cricket or bowls, walk and then picnic on the beach with your partner. There are so many ways to keep moving during the holidays, and your body will thank you for it.

Tip #3: Schedule in some self-care time

The end of the year is the perfect time to reflect on the year that was. For many, this involves regretting that enough time wasn’t made for looking after our self. Making time for yourself is especially important at this time of year when stress is high. This includes scheduling a time for an adjustment before the break, we want you jumping into 2020 looking, moving and feeling at your best. Even Santa has the time!
